History of ACC

Avon Community Church was planted in 1987 by a small body of Christians who believed that God had called them to plant an evangelical outreach in the community of Avon. This belief stemmed from two things: First, Pastor Bruce Pinke at South Elmdale Congregational Church (SEC), a nearby rural church, was doing studies at Moody Bible Institute, and one of his projects was to complete a demographic study of a community; and second, the vision of Lou Brenny to have an evangelical church in the Avon area.

Pastor Pinke received permission from the elders at SEC to canvass the City of Avon. A group of SEC members went door-to-door throughout Avon with a questionnaire about church attendance, ministries that might be needed in Avon, etc. God spoke to this group during that process. The response from the community was overwhelmingly positive, to such an extent that the decision was made to begin worship services on December 19th.

With the blessing of SEC, four families left that church family and began holding Saturday night worship services at the City Hall in Avon. Pastor Pinke was given the blessing of the SEC elders and congregation to pastor the church plant on Saturday night while still conducting Sunday morning services there.

Since that time, we have moved from the city hall to the elementary school and finally, to our present building. With God’s blessing, we have grown from those first four families to a congregation of 84 members with an average Sunday worship attendance of approximately 170. Because of this growth, we have recently completed Phase One of a two phase building project wherein we constructed a new Christian Education wing and Administration wing.

Christ has been the focal point of our church family since day one and we’ll continue to keep Christ at the center of our vision, our church and our lives together. Without Him, we can do nothing!
